About

Who am I?

My name is Beau Steward. I’m a single guy living in Texas. I work in IT, but most days, I don’t care for it, and some days I hate it. I have a goal to be making six figures (more than $100,000 per year) by the time I’m 30 years old, a deadline I’m quickly approaching. I’m fat, but I’ve been dropping the weight. I’m also tall.

What do I do for a living?

I work at Verizon as a contractor in their FiOS Product Design and Development group. Specifically, I’m on the Configuration Management team. My job is part of the development and project flow control for the services software developers. I also do some development myself for software used internally. I get to see some things that are coming up before the public does, which is kinda cool. I hope to be rolled over to a full Verizon employee soon.

What do I do for fun?

I use to write scripts and programs, but when it becomes your job, it’s a bit less enjoyable. I actually do a lot of things for fun. Sometimes I go out to drink with friends. I enjoy movies, particularly at the Studio Movie Grill, video games, music, concerts, photography, etc. More recently, I’ve gotten into Yang style Taijiquan and fitness in general.

What is a Nimdae?

A long time ago, I went by the pseudonym Strider online. Yes, I took it from Lord of the Rings. When the movies were released, LotR nerds who didn’t know me assumed I took the name from the movies and had never read the books. After getting tired of defending myself, and getting bored with the name becoming impossible to use in new communities, I decided it was time for a change. When creating a character for a game, I spent about 15 minutes looking around the room, daydreaming, etc, trying to invent something unique, possibly even totally invented. I managed to put together Nimdae through this process. I eventually found this name still had ties to J.R.R. Tolkien in one of his Elven languages, Sindarin. After using the name for years, I discovered it means white/pale shadow.

Why this site? Why not MySpace/Facebook/other retarded social networking site?

I don’t find modern social networking sites as useful. In all honesty, they are no better than Geocities was back in the ’90s. Sure, they allow for just about anyone to have their own web presence, but they allow for some of the most awful sites. I’m not basing this just on prejudice. I’ve used various social networking sites and found very few as useful. One of those sites are integrated on this site. Don’t get me wrong, I do have a MySpace account, as well as Facebook, LinkedIn, LiveJournal, etc. I don’t use them very often, however.
